If you’re unfamiliar with Big Loud Records imprint Big Loud Rock’s latest signees Yam Haus, the immediate reference point upon hitting play on their new single “Rafters” is the impassioned vocals of Brandon Flowers on the early Killers LPs. Somewhat relatedly, the epic scale of instrumentation rooted in pop-minded post-rock that backs vocalist Lars Pruitt recalls Coldplay’s U2 era  as heard on X&Y from around the same time period, crafting a sense of nostalgia to supplement the song’s urgent four minutes.

Appropriately, that sense of nostalgia carries over to the single’s lyrics, which reflect on the recklessness of youth, when taking a spill was considerably less likely to make your whole body ache for a week or two. “‘Rafters’ is a song about letting go, even when you’re not sure where you’ll land,” shares Pruitt. “Going back to the way we used to be as kids, swinging from the monkey bars in the playground, we’d let ourselves drop and tumble into whatever came next. It was a very cathartic and personal song for us to write as a band. It’s for anybody that feels they might also need to let go of something.”

The single arrives with a music video compiling footage from the trio’s life on the road, from candid shots in the tour van to an impassioned on-stage performance of “Rafters.” Watch it below.
